About the Blog
Water Cooler Gossip follows Gabriella Pirraglia during her final year as an undergraduate student trying to figure out what she wants to do and who she wants to be. Each week readers will be invited into her life as she attends classes, goes to work, and attempts to untangle the web of life after Mac. In order to do this Gabi has chosen to lurk around Career Services for the next 8 months and utilize every last resource they have available (she encourages you to do the same). She of course will be documenting and sharing every experience so readers can learn what to do (and not do) when it comes to making life changing decisions. See you by the water cooler!
About the New Author (2009-2010)
Gabriella Pirraglia is the new author for McMaster University’s Career Services blog- Water Cooler Gossip. Gabi (as she is called by family and friends) is currently completing her fourth year of a Combined Honours degree in Communications and Cultural Studies. While the dense theoretical readings can sometimes get her down, Gabi truly enjoys all aspects of life at McMaster. Gabi is someone who believes (or at least hopes) that four years of hard work will get her where she wants to be. Of course that destination is still unknown but she invites you to join in the journey as she discovers what exactly it is a Humanities student does after university…. And no, she does not want to be a teacher.
About the Previous Author (2008-2009)
Michael Pett, author of Water Cooler Gossip, is the Student Blogger for McMaster University’s Career Services and currently enrolled in his fourth year of a Combined Honours Degree in History and Economics. Although Michael enjoys most of his classes and would probably say that he generally likes school overall, most of his learning actually takes place outside of the lecture hall through a long list of extracurricular activities. Over the past three years Michael has been involved on campus as an Inter-Residence Council Floor Rep, a Student Representative Assembly Member, a Shakespearean actor, a theatre producer, a Basketball vs. Bullying Lead Mentor, a Global Citizenship Conference High School Mentor, a Residence Welcome Week Representative, a Horizons Leadership Developer, and a Faculty Welcome Week Planner. Currently, Michael serves as the House Leader for the Student Representative Assembly and as the Director of Project Development for a student-founded not-for-profit organization called CURE Canada.
Dunn here. Judy Dunn. Master of Information.
Actually, I’m the Assistant Dean, Academic and Program of the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto, and I was delighted to read your amusing column on the McMaster Continuing Education Fair. I’m sorry you didn’t make it over to our table – we would have wowed you with our omniscience. I would have been pleased to tell you about our innovative JD/MI – a combined degree program that would make you both a lawyer and a Master of Information – a formidable combination. You could definitely call yourself the controller of all knowledge with those two degrees.
Best wishes as you continue to hunt for the perfect graduate program. We may be the one for you!
Cheers, Judy (VIP Recruitment Officer)
